Portuguese Evening Course in Berlin
Learn Portuguese after work: two evenings a week in a relaxed atmosphere – in small groups with native-speaking teachers in Berlin-Mitte.
Why a Portuguese evening course?
The evening course is the ideal format for anyone who works or studies during the day: you learn Portuguese continuously on two evenings a week while staying flexible for your job and everyday life. The steady pace over eight weeks helps what you learn really stick – and the small group leaves plenty of room for speaking, questions and revision.
Portuguese Evening Course for Beginners and Advanced Learners
Portuguese opens the door to Portugal, Brazil and further Portuguese-speaking countries across four continents. In our courses you learn the language with its characteristic nasal sounds and the soft pronunciation of lh and nh – either with a focus on European or Brazilian Portuguese, while the differences between both varieties are taken into account from the very start. From your first "Bom dia" to polished professional language, we accompany you across all CEFR levels from A1 to C2.
Portuguese Evening Course
A1A1 – Beginner
Absolute beginners with little or no prior knowledge who want to learn Portuguese from scratch.
You take your first steps in Portuguese and learn to communicate in everyday situations – introducing yourself, greeting people and talking about yourself. From the outset you train the typical nasal sounds (ão, ãe, õe) as well as the pronunciation of lh, nh and ç. You develop a feel for grammatical gender (o/a) and the matching article and adjective forms. Along the way we show you where European and Brazilian Portuguese already differ in pronunciation and forms of address.
What you will learn:
- Pronounce the nasal sounds and diphthongs ão, ãe, õe as well as the sounds lh, nh and ç correctly
- Introduce yourself and ask and answer simple questions using ser and estar
- Use grammatical gender (o menino / a menina) and the correct article accurately
- Conjugate regular -ar, -er and -ir verbs in the presente do indicativo
- Recognise the difference between European (tu/você) and Brazilian (você) forms of address

A2A2 – Elementary
Learners with basic Portuguese who want to communicate more confidently in familiar everyday situations.
You expand your vocabulary and handle typical situations such as shopping, travelling and making arrangements. Grammatically you enter the past and learn the difference between the pretérito perfeito (completed action) and the pretérito imperfeito (state, habit). You practise using prepositions with their typical contractions (em + o = no, de + a = da). In the process we deepen your understanding of how vocabulary and tense usage differ between European and Brazilian Portuguese.
What you will learn:
- Distinguish the pretérito perfeito from the pretérito imperfeito and use each appropriately
- Form contractions of preposition and article (no, na, do, da, pelo) confidently
- Talk about daily life, the past and plans using ir + infinitive
- Conjugate common irregular verbs such as ter, fazer, ir and poder correctly
- Recognise everyday vocabulary differences between Portugal (comboio, pequeno-almoço) and Brazil (trem, café da manhã)

B1B1 – Intermediate
Learners who can already get by and now want to speak coherently about familiar topics.
You reach linguistic independence and can express yourself coherently on familiar topics such as work, travel and personal experiences. You are introduced to the subjunctive (subjuntivo), which is used far more frequently in Portuguese than in English – for instance after wishes, doubts and in subordinate clauses with que. The futuro do conjuntivo, a special feature of Portuguese (quando eu chegar), is also introduced. We work contrastively with European and Brazilian texts and listening examples.
What you will learn:
- Form the presente do conjuntivo after expressions of wish, doubt and necessity
- Apply the futuro do conjuntivo in subordinate clauses with se, quando and assim que
- Position object and reflexive pronouns correctly (enclisis vs. proclisis, EP vs. BP)
- Report coherently on experiences, opinions and future plans
- Distinguish formal and informal registers and handle the forms of address in both varieties

A special feature of Portuguese is the personal infinitive (infinitivo pessoal), which you learn to distinguish reliably from ordinary infinitive and subjunctive constructions. You sharpen your awareness of stylistic and regional nuances between European and Brazilian Portuguese.
What you will learn:
- Form and use the personal infinitive (infinitivo pessoal: para nós fazermos) correctly
- Apply all tenses of the subjuntivo in complex conditional and concessive clauses
- Vary passive, participle and gerund constructions (estar a fazer vs. estar fazendo)
