Questions about the Conversation Course
The conversation course is aimed at participants from A1 level upwards, as communication in class is exclusively in German and requires a certain basic understanding of grammar as well as basic vocabulary. If you are unsure whether your language level is sufficient, we recommend taking our free placement test. This gives you a reliable assessment and ensures the course matches your current level. If you are below A1, an intensive course is the right first step to build the necessary foundations.
Topics in the conversation course are strongly based on participants’ wishes and interests. These can include current news topics, cultural questions, everyday situations or professional scenarios – the variety is intentionally broad so you can become linguistically more confident in as many contexts as possible. Our teachers prepare suitable materials for each session and use formats such as discussions, role plays and debates to keep lessons varied. In this way, you train not only free speaking but also argumentation and spontaneous responses in different conversational situations.
The conversation course runs over four weeks and takes place once a week on Fridays from 8:30 to 11:30, 11:45 to 14:45 or 18:00 to 21:00. In total, the course includes 16 teaching units across four intensive sessions. This compact format allows you to attend easily alongside work or studies while still deepening your speaking practice regularly. Between sessions, you have enough time to apply what you have learned in daily life and prepare your own topic suggestions for the next class.
Groups consist of at least 4 and at most 12 participants. This group size is chosen deliberately: large enough for lively discussions and different perspectives, but small enough so every participant gets enough speaking time. Our teachers make sure everyone is actively included – even more reserved participants are given targeted opportunities to contribute. This way, you benefit from dynamic exchange without getting lost in the group.
A variety of methods are used in the conversation course, all with one goal: to get you speaking. These include open discussions on current topics, structured debates with pro and contra positions, role plays from everyday and professional life, as well as pair and group work. This mix ensures that you not only expand your vocabulary but also learn to argue spontaneously and convincingly. In addition, the teacher provides targeted feedback on pronunciation, grammar and expression so you can recognise your mistakes and work on them actively.
Yes, reducing speaking anxiety is one of the central goals of the conversation course. Many German learners know the problem: grammar is solid and vocabulary is there, but confidence is missing in conversation. In a supportive small group with like-minded learners, we create an atmosphere where mistakes are explicitly allowed and even encouraged – because only those who speak can improve. Through regular speaking practice and constructive feedback, you gradually reduce inhibitions and gain noticeably more confidence in German.
Absolutely – the conversation course can be combined excellently with other course formats. If, for example, you would like to strengthen your grammar foundations at the same time, our grammar course is an ideal addition. This way, you work on theory and practical spoken use in parallel. A combination with our intensive course is also possible if you want to improve your German particularly quickly. Since the conversation course takes place on Fridays, it fits well into a broader learning plan.
While our language meet-up offers a relaxed, open format for informal exchange, the conversation course is a structured course with a professional teacher, clear learning goals and targeted feedback. In the conversation course, topics are prepared didactically, exercises are guided systematically and your language progress is actively supported. The language meet-up is excellent as additional practice between course sessions, but it cannot replace focused instruction. The ideal approach is a combination of both formats – structured learning in class and free practice at the meet-up.
The conversation course does not aim at a formal CEFR level but at a noticeable improvement in your oral communication skills. After four weeks of regular speaking practice, you will speak more fluently, argue more confidently and respond more spontaneously in conversation situations. Many participants report that they speak German much more confidently in everyday life and at work after the course. If you additionally want to pursue an official exam or raise your level systematically, we recommend one of our intensive courses.
You can find current start dates for the conversation course further up on this page or on our Course Dates page. There you can see all available courses with date, time and open places at a glance. Registration is completed directly online via the registration form. Since groups are limited to a maximum of 12 participants, we recommend registering early to secure a place. If you have any questions about registration or choosing the right course, we are of course happy to help.
