The “International English Language Testing System” (IELTS test) is a standardized English test that is accepted by most universities and many large companies – especially in Australia, England and New Zealand – as proof of your English language skills. The test is based on “World English” and therefore tests both American and British English. The test is administered by the Cambridge University, the British Council and the IDP Education Australia. In this special English course a native English speaking teacher will prepare you specifically for the 4 categories of the test.

What is the IELTS test?
The International English Language Testing System is an international English test that is used to test your level of English. This test is taken in writen form, i.e. on paper, and also includes a short personal interview of about a quarter of an hour.
Since British English is tested in addition to American English, this test is accepted mainly in Australia, England and New Zealand. This is reinforced by the fact that the IELTS is carried out by the Cambridge University, the British Council and the IDP Education Australia.
The reading, listening and writing parts must be completed in one day. The oral examination can be taken within one week of the written examinations.

Is the IELTS test included in our preparation course?
The IELTS test is not part of the course. To register for the test you must register on the British Council website and then take the test in one of 14 German cities.

What do you need the IELTS test?
The IELTS test is a certified English test which is recognised around the world. With the help of this test you can prove your current level of English. The test is often required by international universities or employers as proof of language ability. Please note that the test result is only valid for 2 years.
With over 6000 academic institutions, government agencies and organizations in 120 countries accepting the IELTS as proof of your English proficiency, it is the most widely used English test worldwide.
There are two different options: The Academic Training and the General Training.
- The academic IELTS is usually taken by students who want to study at a university in an English-speaking country or at an English-speaking university in Germany.
- The general IELTS is mostly taken by people who want to prove their English language skills for professional purposes or for emigration to an English-speaking country.
How many points can you get on the IELTS test?
The IELTS tests levels B1 to C2 and has a maximum score of 9.0. Depending on the score achieved, you will be classified into one of the English levels.
