Why a Turkish weekend course?

The weekend course concentrates the lessons on Saturday: you learn Turkish in compact sessions without the course clashing with work, university or family during the week. In small groups of 4 to 12 participants there is still plenty of time for active speaking – and over eight weeks you build up your level in a structured, lasting way.

Turkish Weekend Course

Turkish Weekend Course for Beginners and Advanced Learners

Turkish opens the door to one of the most expressive languages bridging Europe and Asia. As an agglutinative language, Turkish stacks meaning in long chains of suffixes, follows vowel harmony, and has no grammatical gender at all. From its unfamiliar SOV word order to the sounds ı, ö, ü, ş, ç and ğ, our Turkish courses guide you step by step from A1 to C2.

Turkish Weekend Course

A1

A1 – Beginner

Absolute beginners with no prior knowledge looking for a solid and motivating introduction to Turkish.

In the A1 course you get to know the Turkish alphabet with its special letters ı, ö, ü, ş, ç and ğ, and you train clear, syllable-precise pronunciation. You understand the basic principle of vowel harmony and of agglutination, where endings are attached to word stems like building blocks. Because Turkish has no grammatical gender, there are no articles to memorise – instead we practise the SOV word order with the verb at the end, which is unusual for English speakers. This lets you handle first everyday situations such as greetings, introductions and simple questions.

What you will learn:

  • Confidently master the Turkish alphabet and the pronunciation of the special sounds ı, ö, ü, ş, ç, ğ
  • Recognise and apply minor and major vowel harmony in simple words
  • Introduce yourself using personal endings -im/-sin and ask questions with the particle mi
  • Correctly attach first suffixes such as the locative -de/-da ("in Berlin" = Berlin'de)
  • Build simple SOV sentences with the verb at the end in the present tense (-iyor)
