A1A1 – Beginner
For participants with no or very little knowledge of Spanish
This course introduces you to the basics of the Spanish language, including pronunciation, the differences between ser and estar, and fundamental sentence structures. You will learn to introduce yourself, handle simple everyday interactions, and understand short spoken and written texts. Spanish pronunciation rules and the rhythmic patterns of the language are covered from the very start.
What you will learn:
- Learn Spanish pronunciation including the rolled r, ñ, and stress patterns
- Understand and correctly use ser and estar in basic contexts
- Introduce yourself, ask and answer personal questions, and exchange contact information
- Handle everyday situations such as shopping, ordering food, and asking for directions
- Use present tense regular and key irregular verbs in simple sentences

For participants with basic knowledge of Spanish who can handle simple everyday situations
This course builds on your existing foundation and develops your ability to communicate in a wider range of everyday situations. You will learn past tenses including the pretérito indefinido and pretérito perfecto, talk about experiences and routines, and write short texts. The course also introduces reflexive verbs and basic object pronouns.
What you will learn:
- Narrate past events using the pretérito indefinido and pretérito perfecto
- Describe daily routines, habits, and leisure activities in detail
- Use reflexive verbs and direct/indirect object pronouns correctly
- Write short emails, messages, and descriptions of people and places
- Understand and participate in simple conversations about familiar topics
